Christmas Hard Candy Lollipops

Finished Christmas Lollipops

Making your own flavored lollipops is fun and easy!

RECIPE (Makes about 15 Pops):
2 cups of Granulated Sugar
1/3 cup Karo Light Corn Syrup
1/3 cup of water
1 Dram of Lorraines Flavored Candy Oil or
1 1/2 tsp. Flavored Extract

Mix sugar, corn syrup, and water together in a heavy pan (I only stir it once in the pan....it does not need to be stirred again) and cook until it reaches 300 degrees on a candy thermometer.  The thermometer is crucial for the correct temperature so that it sets properly.

While it is cooking, make sure that your pans are set up and lollipop sticks are ready.

As soon as the temperature reaches 300 degrees, remove from heat.  Add the flavoring of your choice and a few drops of food coloring to achieve your color of choice.  Stir quickly.

Quickly pour into molds and add sticks.  Wait at least 30 minutes before removing from mold.  Place in a small plastic bag to preserve them for your friends/family.

My Tips.....

The candy flavorings (Lorraines) can be purchased online or at your favorite craft or candy store.

If you are using molds, you need several molds for each batch.  You could buy different ones, but I was doing a big charity project so I had 5 molds of each Santa and Trees.  I purchase these molds from www.sweettreatsupply.com, they shipped super fast and at a reasonable cost!!  But MAKE SURE that the molds you are using are for hard candy.  The normal clear ones do NOT withstand the heat of 300 degree candy and you will have a big sugary mess when they all melt down!
